Erie Railroad Bridge. The old Erie Railroad bridge passing over Church Street where it connects to Robbins Avenue. In 1953 a new overpass was built that allowed Robbins Avenue to connect with North Main Street. In the background of this photograph, ca 1913, is the electric railway waiting station. |

The Erie Railroad bridge crosses over Mosquito Creek near Robbins Avenue and Mahoning Avenue. During the November 1, 1924 Riot, it was rumored that the Knights of the Flaming Circle had placed dynamite under this bridge. They threatened to blow up this bridge to prevent a train carrying KKK members from meeting other Klan members positioned on North Road. The train was stopped at the Niles Erie Railroad station and forced to back up and leave Niles without any passengers leaving the train. |
